About BPM
What is BPM?
Beats Per Minute — the tempo of a song. A higher BPM means a faster song. Most pop music sits between 100–130 BPM, hip-hop around 80–100, and EDM at 120–150.
Tips for Accurate Tapping
Tap on the snare or kick — the strongest rhythmic pulse. Aim for at least 8–12 taps for a stable reading. The confidence meter shows how consistent your taps are.
Half-Time & Double-Time
If the BPM seems too fast or slow, you may be tapping in double-time or half-time. A 140 BPM hip-hop track might feel like 70 if you tap the half-note pulse. Both are valid — it depends on context.
